Pickler's dreams keep coming true

American Idol alum Kellie Pickler would seem a likely candidate to be ubiquitous at this week's Country Radio Seminar.

But Pickler, whose Small Town Girl album topped country album charts in its first week of release, is off in Los Angeles, where she sang new single "I Wonder" on Idol Thursday night.

"Everything that has happened to me is just amazing," Pickler said Monday afternoon, lunching at Midtown Cafe. "Every dream that I've had is coming true."

Pickler is the second female vocalist to emerge from Idol and become a major-label country performer. The first, of course, is Carrie Underwood, who recently added Grammy Awards to a trophy haul that includes prizes from the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music Awards. More...

Kellie Pickler's Father Pleads Guilty In Albemarle

ALBEMARLE, N.C. -- Kellie Pickler’s father pled guilty to two charges against him in a Stanly County courtroom Wednesday morning.

Clyde “Bo” Pickler was charged with communicating threats, assault on a female and assault with a deadly weapon earlier this month. He pled guilty to simple assault and communicating threats. The assault with a deadly weapon charge was dropped.

Pickler received a 90-day suspended sentence and one year on probation.

His stepdaughter was in the courtroom, but his famous “American Idol” star daughter was not present.

Pickler was released from prison in May 2006 after serving more than three years for aggravated assault and battery charges after he stabbed a man. His daughter had been eliminated from the popular TV show the week before.

The two hadn’t seen each other in years when they were reunited at a homecoming celebration for the singer in Albemarle. More...

Antonella Barba Leads American İdol - The Stats

Vizu has uncovered a truth about the Season 6 “American Idol” competition that Randy, Paula, Simon and Ryan Seacrest don’t reveal in the near five hours they dominate our televisions each week.

Quite simply, performance isn’t everything. Sex and politics are where the votes are.

Antonella Barba, a contestant mired this week in scandalous reports of sexually lewd photographs appearing on the Internet, is in fact the leading female contestant going into the Final 16, taking 22.2% of the vote. This is despite her average to lackluster performances on the show, and consistent panning by the judges’ panel. While judge consensus thus far suggests that LaKisha Jones (18.6%) and Melinda Doolittle (16.6%) are the better performers, they and the field are presently being dominated by the sexuality of Barba.

On the men’s side, performance is winning, with Blake Lewis (26.5%), Chris Sligh (16.9%) and Chris Richardson (15.7%) leading the pack. Those numbers accurately reflect judge’s reviews thus far. However, seemingly also-ran Sanjaya Malakar, who has been consistently pegged for dismissal each week, is in fact comfortably in the middle of the pack, well ahead of three remaining contestants in addition to the two removed this week. Kelly Pickler Has a New ummm... Look

Kellie Pickler appeared on American Idol last night sporting a new look to the amazement of everyone. Aside from the hair what was different? You get TWO guesses! Looks like they plan on turning her into Dolly Parton at this rate.

Pickler stopped by the ratings juggernaut to perform her new single in a dress that showed off two very large assets suspiciously absent from last year’s show.

Her transformation was so apparent, even Ryan Seacrest noticed. When she appeared on stage, he looked at her new figure, then asked her if there was anything she’d bought with her recent cash windfall. (Once the snickering died down, a giggling Pickler …replied “shoes.”)

This was Kelly in her Prom Dress - not sure it would fit anymore.

Course... maybe she is just keeping up with Kat

American Idol Skips Live Comment on Antonella Barba Topless Photos

By Lynda Johnson
Mar 1, 2007

She's Antonella Barba and she has been on the top of everyone's list of searches for the last week. The 20-year old native New Jersey girl is one of the top ten girls on the Reality TV show 'American idol' and she performed on Wednesday night. So - where was the comment? There wasn't one from any of the judges or even prankster and host Ryan Seacrest. MTV notes that the closest anyone came to commenting on the flap was when judge Randy Jackson referred to Barba - dressed in a body-hugging, satiny mini-dress - as a "drop-dead gorgeous, beautiful girl" before telling her she just didn't have a big enough voice to tackle the Celine Dion ballad "Because You Loved Me." Antonella Barba Sucks - at Singing That Is.

By Craig Berman
MSNBC contributor

Hey! Anyone hear about those risqué pictures that purport to depict “Idol” semifinalist Antonella Barba in various stages of undress. If not, you probably don’t have access to the Internet — or you’re an “American Idol” judge, host or producer.

The “American Idol” story of the week was blatantly ignored on Wednesday. No mention of any provocative photos. No claims from Barba that the more risqué shots were pure PhotoShop fabrications — though friends have apparently made that claim for her. No joke that maybe Barba should dedicate her performance to the inventor of MySpace for making her the talk of the Web. Just a hope that the whole issue will go away.

The only way that’s happening is if Barba gets voted off. Based on Wednesday’s performance alone, that’s a strong possibility, but it’s hard to see a scenario where teenage boys won’t burn up the phone lines to keep her around. Who knows what will turn up on the Internet next?

LaKisha Jones and Melinda Doolittle continue to lead the pack, with Stephanie Edwards and Sabrina Sloan right behind. Gina Glocksen was solid in opening the show, Jordin Sparks gets points for being young and personable, Leslie Hunt was solid … and after that it’s anyone’s guess who gets voted off. But, after a second unspectacular performance in a row, Alaina Alexander is the best bet to be one of the unlucky two.

Gina Glocksen, 22, Naperville , Ill.: Glocksen said she wouldn’t have auditioned for “Idol” again were it not for her boyfriend, and dedicated her performance to him. Her version of “Alone,” made famous first by Heart and again by Carrie Underwood in Season 4, got off to a slow start. Glocksen powered through the chorus, however, and wound up pulling it off. Randy and Paula liked it a lot, but Simon wondered why Glocksen wasn’t edgier. With Glocksen’s dyed hair and the visible tattoos, it’s hard to see what Simon is looking for on the edginess meter. This isn’t “American Punk Idol,” after all.
Grade: B+
Stay or go? After the performance, Ryan asked Glocksen how long she and her boyfriend had been together. When she said “two years,” Ryan hinted “time for a ring…” Gina’s boyfriend probably won’t be sending Ryan a Christmas card for that one, but as long as he votes for his girl, she should be safe.

Alaina Alexander, 24, West Hollywood , Calif.: After the comments she got from the judges last week, Alexander made it clear that she’s “Not Ready to Make Nice,” even if she did dedicate the Dixie Chicks cover to her mom. She might not be “ready to back down,” but she doesn’t quite have the range or the power of her rivals. Alexander was better than she was last week, but the judges hated it and would be happy if America sent her home. Simon compared it to Randy Jackson in a 100-meter race, running out of steam after 75 meters. On the positive side, all three judges again complimented her on her looks.
Grade: C
Stay or go? Alexander’s probably going home. Her voice was fine and she’s a likeable contestant, but the competition is tough, and for the second week in a row she didn’t measure up.

LaKisha Jones, 27, Fort Meade , Md.: Jones not only dedicated her song to her grandmother, she said that grandma was “in love — l.u.v.” with Ryan Seacrest. Nobody needed that visual right after eating dinner. Her rendition of Gladys Knight & the Pips’ “Midnight Train to Georgia” was safe but strong, and she’s still light years ahead of most of her competition. Simon pointed out that she needs to come out with the force of the star that she’s been thus far, rather than letting the nerves get the best of her at the beginning. And then he moved on to a critique of Jones’ outfit.
Grade: A
Stay or go? Jones is a lock for the final 12, unless her fans actually believe that and skip the voting.

Melinda Doolittle, 29, Brentwood, Tenn .: America has somehow reached a point where “Idol” contestants not only have vocal coaches and stylists — they freely dedicate songs to them on national television. Dolittle sang “My Funny Valentine” to those two friends — her “Gails,” as she put it — and it was a thousand times better than candy hearts or wilting flowers. Randy called her the one to beat, Paula thought it was “astounding,” and Simon opened with “that was incredible … without question, the best vocal we’ve had in the competition. You don’t know how good you are.” So basically, they all liked the performance.
Grade: A+
Stay or go? Doolittle’s a safe bet to stay, and is one of the early favorites.

Antonella Barba, 20, Point Pleasant , N.J.: Before going onstage, Barba told Ryan that she was a little less nervous than last week. Perhaps after the firestorm that the (perhaps doctored) photos have caused, singing before millions of people seems like a walk in the park. Unfortunately her attempt at Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me,” dedicated to her brother, was way too much for her vocally. The non-Paula judges weren’t impressed at all, though Randy did call her “drop-dead beautiful.”
Grade: C
Stay or go? Who knows? As Barba pointed out, Simon was wrong about Jennifer Hudson. Of course, as Simon pointed out, the audience voted Hudson out. But even though she didn’t sing to her potential and was eclipsed by most of her rivals, all the intangibles remain in her favor. There’s a good chance she’ll be back next week.More...

Antonella Barba in "The Cone of Silence"

Nary a mention of the Antonella Barba contoversy during "Boys Night" on American Idol

By Charlie McCollum
Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

You have to love the intersection of technology and popular culture, a very cluttered bit of roadway that has proven rather dangerous for those who aren’t paying attention to the traffic around them.

barba 1Take the case of Antonella Barba, who made the final 24 (now the final 20) on “American Idol.'’ Last week, photos of the 20-year-old student at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. popped up on the Web. Some looked like they were taken on a girls’ drunken night out, described rather neatly by Washington Post TV columnist Lisa de Moraes as “Girls Gone Wild'’ Lite. (I’m avoiding the obvious links here. If you want to see them, just do your Google thing on Barba and they will most definitely pop up.)

The other shots, though, are a somewhat different matter: Hardcore photos of oral sex. The problem is that while they’re supposed to be of Barba, her friends say they are not. (Barba herself can’t speak since she’s under the usual “Idol'’ cone of silence.)

What’s interesting is how many folks online and in emails to me are suggesting that the “Idol'’ producers are guilty of a double standard in the dealing with the Barba photos. They point out that while Frenchie Davis, a finalist in 2003, was dumped after it was determined she posed nude for a porn site (nothing hardcore), it appears Barba will still be around Wednesday night when the women sing in round 2. Some have gone as far as to suggest it’s a matter of race, while others wonder if body shape (Davis was a full-bodied woman) has something to do with it.

There is a difference, though. The Barba photos (the ones that are definitely of her) were private ones, not from a photo shoot for a porn site. Barba may be guilty of bad judgment or outright stupidity but that doesn’t carry quite the same weight as Davis taking money to pose and then not telling the “Idol'’ producers about it.

As for the hardcore ones … well, there’s enough evidence that maybe they aren’t of her that it may be hard for the “Idol'’ kingpins to give her the ol’ heave-ho.

And let’s be honest, chances are good this is all going to blow over fairly quickly. Of all the remaining female contestants, Barba may be the worst as witness her ear-numbing rendition of “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.'’ If there’s any justice — and, admittedly, sometimes there isn’t on “Idol'’ — she’ll be gone Thursday night and those photos will drift off into Web obscurity. 'Idol' Hopeful Antonella Barba's Pal Says X-Rated Pics Are Fake
Racy photos have made semifinalist one of the most searched people online.

By Gil Kaufman

Antonella Barba's warbly rendition of Aerosmith's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" last week might eventually get the "American Idol" semifinalist booted off the show. But for now, anyway, the X-rated pictures of her buzzing around the Internet won't.

"Idol" has had its fair share of scandals in the past, but a friend of Barba's jumped to her defense this week after widely distributed, allegedly doctored photos of the New Jersey native surfaced that appeared to show her performing oral sex on an anonymous man. The pictures were accompanied by a flood of other salacious — though not as graphic — shots of Barba in her underwear, sitting on a toilet, covering her breasts alongside a half-dozen other friends on the beach and posing in various sexy outfits.

The anonymously posted shots helped Barba become one of the most searched people on the Internet over the past week, but her best friend, unsuccessful "Idol" aspirant Amanda Coluccio of Holmdel, New Jersey, said Monday that the most outrageous ones are fakes. Coluccio told Newark, New Jersey's Star-Ledger that the less graphic photos are of Barba, but that her friend is not the person depicted in the X-rated shots.

"The really bad ones aren't her. I've studied them," Coluccio told the paper. "It's not her nose. She's never had [acrylic nail] tips [like the woman in the photo] in her life. She's the least slutty person I know."

Though citizens in Barba's small hometown of Point Pleasant on the Jersey shore continued to support the singer and post signs wishing her good luck, they were among those who copped to the reality that in the digital age, these kinds of photos are bound to surface.

"When the toilet picture came out, we had already said she's one of the worst [singers] on this year's edition ... and then this all blew up," said Dave Della Terza, webmaster of the three-year-old site VotefortheWorst.com, which encourages fans to vote for the show's worst contestants.

Though his site has been all over the scandal and has made its name skewering the show, Della Terza said he feels bad for Barba. "When you take pictures of yourself on the toilet or topless with friends, it's your own fault for putting them up there," he said. "But when someone fakes pictures of you, that's just terrible. I feel really bad for her. It's fun to poke fun at them, but this could ruin her life."

Rather selfishly, Della Terza — who posted photos Monday on his site that appear to confirm that the woman in the graphic pictures is not Barba based on their different facial features — hopes the singer doesn't get kicked off because the site has already adopted her as this year's unofficial mascot for the worst contestants. An "American Idol" spokesperson wouldn't comment for this story, and MTV News was unable to reach Barba for comment because contestants are not allowed to speak to the press during the early run of the show.

Barba, 20, who was studying architecture at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., before making it to the "Idol" Hollywood rounds, is thought to be living on borrowed time on the show. In her first semifinals performance last week, her uneven take on the Aerosmith ballad "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" was dissed by the judges and landed her at the top of the female list on Della Terza's site.

But she may not need "Idol" anyway. At one point last week, Barba was the top search item on the Technorati.com blog-tracker site, beating out Britney Spears (#2), "Idol" (#5) and even Anna Nicole Smith (#14), and as of Tuesday, she was #2 just behind the Oscars and ahead of MySpace (#3) and Al Gore (#5).

And, according to gossip site TMZ.com, last week not even Britney's umbrella-bashing paparazzi incident and third trip to rehab could surpass the interest in Barba, who was #1 on the AOL search site.

Barba isn't the first "Idol" contestant to be embroiled in a sex scandal. Season-two semifinalist Frenchie Davis was booted off the show when topless pictures she'd shot for an adult Web site surfaced online.

Antonella Barba - A Photo Essay

The American Idol?

Antonella Barba is experiencing her 15 minutes of fame and she should enjoy it now because she won't be remembered later for her singing ability or lack thereof.

This weeks events have been fodder for the media who can't get enough of her exihibitionist photos. By now most people are aware that the "Oral Sex" photos are not of Antonella but you can be sure that people are scouring the net looking for "Real" photos of her in a sex act.

Will the person or persons leaking all the photos upload a few more in time for tonight's show? We will have to wait and see.
